Carving machines can be used to carve as per design but a lot faster. These are ideal for large scale production of carved products.  This article explains the working of these machines.

Carved wooden furniture and artifacts are a glorious tradition of Indian woodcraft , in which the skill is handed down to future generations by expert artists.
Today, carved wooden articles from Karnataka , Rajasthan, Kashmir & UP are appreciated not only in India but all over the world. The centers like Mysore, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Saharanpur & Jammu are famous for the carved products. There, mostly the traditional methods of production , that is different types of hand tools and wooden mallet are generally in use.
We see that by using the simple hand tools, a worker with his total attention , has to work for a long time to manufacture a single piece.
Carving machines that we are going to discuss here have been developed to carve wooden products with least physical efforts and fast speed of manufacture. Also these are used to carve as per ideas of designer, so the beauty of carved products is well achieved.
Carving tools with vibrating motion
Carving tools with electric/ Pneumatic vibrating motion have been developed to reduce the physical labour needed by carver. This is a simple vibrator on which the required tool is mounted. The carver just should press tool against the portion of the wood to be removed With the help of the tool the worker can concentrate only on the intricacy of design and can produce much more superior product with less physical labour.
Automatic Carving Machines
Automatic Carving Machines work on the principal of multiple pantograph. In this machine, the master piece which is to be duplicated is mounted in the center of machine, and work pieces are mounted on the sides. A high speed Router is mounted on a metal frame which is guided by a copying pin. This copying pin is tracing the masterpiece.
In this type of machines the copying pin has to be moved manually and the tools are to be changed during rough & fine carving.
The machine can be provided with a reversible motor as an optional attachment. The motor has two„tool collets on both sides. The motor rotates 180 in its position and starts operation of second tool automatically. This cuts tool change time drastically.
The masterpieces or workpieces are connected by a mechanism. This mechanism enables us to simultaneously rotate them. We can manufacture beautiful identical pieces of statues, carved legs or parts of furniture, round or oval pieces with carved designs etc using this machine.
Carving machines are ideal to process 2-20 work pieces at a time. Any workpiece ranging between 800 to 1900 mm can be processed on this'- machine.
Carving machine is a boon for an artist which helps him to manufacture beautiful identical carved products. Automatic CNC machines are also available in which the machine changes tools and operates automatically. We have only to program it as per our design.
We can sum up saying that Automatic CNC or Semi-automatic Carving machines is an ideal combination of wonderful designs by artists and advanced wood-technology.
